NBCUniversal's Cookie Policy: As If We Had a Choice
Alright, let's get this straight. NBCUniversal, like every other freakin' corporation on the planet, is shoving cookies down our throats and pretending it's for our own good. "This Cookie Notice explains how NBCUniversal...use cookies and similar tracking technologies..." Oh, it explains it, does it? As if explaining makes it okay.
They generously offer you a "Cookie Settings" link. How thoughtful. It's like being mugged and then the mugger offering you a choice of which pocket to take the wallet from. You're still getting robbed! And let's be real, who actually reads these things? We click "Accept All" just to make the damn banner go away.
"Strictly Necessary Cookies: These Cookies are required for Service functionality..." Yeah, strictly necessary for their functionality—tracking our every move so they can sell us more crap we don't need. It's the digital equivalent of those creepy dudes who follow you around in department stores, except now they’re in your freakin' brain.
And the "Personalization Cookies"? Don't even get me started. "Remembering choices you have made (e.g., your language preferences, time zone)..." Oh, how considerate! They remember my language preference so they can target me with ads in that language. It's not about making my life easier; it's about making their wallets fatter.
"Ad Selection and Delivery Cookies: These Cookies are used to collect data about your browsing habits..." They're watching you. They know what you searched for, what you clicked on, how long you lingered on that one questionable website... And they're using it all to build a profile of you, a digital doppelganger that's worth more than your actual soul. Maybe I'm being dramatic, but am I wrong?

They even admit, "We and third parties may associate Measurement And Analytics Cookies, Personalization Cookies...with other information we have about you." Translation: We're combining everything we know about you to create the ultimate surveillance profile. What could possibly go wrong?
Then again, maybe I'm just being paranoid. Maybe NBCUniversal really does have our best interests at heart. Maybe they're just trying to make the internet a better place, one cookie at a time. Nah, I don't buy it.
They tell you how to manage cookies, offering links to browser controls and opt-out pages. It's a freakin' maze! You have to jump through hoops, disable settings, and basically become a cybersecurity expert just to maintain a sliver of privacy.
And even if you manage to opt-out of everything, they still collect data! "Information may still be collected and used for other purposes, such as research, online services analytics or internal operations..." So, you can't win. The only way to truly escape is to throw your computer in a lake and live in a cabin in the woods. Which, honestly, is starting to sound pretty appealing.
I'm sitting here, staring at this screen, and I'm just tired. Tired of the endless data grabs, the fake choices, the corporate doublespeak. Is this the future we wanted? A world where every click, every search, every fleeting thought is monetized and sold to the highest bidder? I don't think so.
